Paul Sarvis (M.F.A. Goddard College) teaches Dance Technique, Repertory, and Choreography. Originally a folk dancer, Mr. Sarvis performed and taught Scottish dance across the U.S. and Canada. His professional training occurred mainly within the Merce Cunningham and Cecchetti ballet traditions, and he has performed with Gloria Unti in San Francisco; Liz Lerman in Washington D.C.; June Finch and Debra Wanner in New York City; and Ram Island Dance Company in Maine.

Currently, he collaborates with Bowdoin colleagues Gretchen Berg and Gwyneth Jones on performance events ranging from self-reflexive movement pieces to raucous physical theater. The trio, Berg, Jones & Sarvis, frequently collaborates with musicians, actors, and visual artists — and has worked with other choreographers including Ann Carlson, Susan Foster, Jonathan Lunn, and Daniel McCusker.

Mr. Sarvis’s recent projects include an interdisciplinary course taught with Bowdoin English Professor, Marilyn Reizbaum (Narrative and Dance), and a set of video interviews with choreographers about aging and dancing (Dancing Through Time). In 2004, he received a grant from the Maine Arts Commission for Dancing Histories — a performance evening which he curated and produced at the Center for Cultural Exchange in Portland.
